Acorus calamus, commonly known as sweet flag, is a robust, semi-aquatic perennial with sword-shaped, aromatic green leaves forming dense clumps. In summer, it produces inconspicuous, greenish-yellow spadices that rise just above the foliage, adding subtle architectural interest along pond edges and in wetland gardens.
This species is valuable for wetland biodiversity, providing shelter for small wildlife and habitat for aquatic insects. Its upright, evergreen foliage and vigorous growth habit make it ideal for waterside planting, pond margins, and naturalistic wet garden schemes.
