Cyperus alternifolius, commonly known as umbrella sedge 'Gracilis', is a slender, clump-forming aquatic perennial with tall, erect green stems topped by delicate, narrow leaves forming graceful, umbrella-like whorls. It produces small, inconspicuous greenish-brown flowers above the foliage in summer, adding subtle texture rather than showy blooms.
This cultivar is ideal for waterside and pond-edge planting, providing shelter for aquatic wildlife while adding fine architectural interest. Its upright, spreading habit and tolerance of consistently wet conditions make it suitable for pond margins, wetland planting, and containers in shallow water.
