Geum rivale, commonly known as water avens, is a clump-forming perennial with soft, green, pinnate leaves forming low, mounded foliage. In late spring to summer, it produces nodding, bell-shaped flowers in shades of pink to mauve with darker centres, adding a charming, naturalistic touch to damp meadows and pond margins.
This species is valuable for pollinators such as bees and butterflies and contributes to wildlife-friendly wetland planting. Its compact, spreading habit and tolerance of moist soils make it ideal for pond edges, wet meadows, and naturalistic garden schemes.
