Glyceria maxima, commonly known as variegated reed sweet-grass, is a vigorous, clump-forming perennial with tall, arching leaves striped in green and creamy white, forming dense tussocks along pond edges and in shallow water. In summer, it produces slender, drooping panicles of greenish-brown flowers above the foliage, adding subtle texture rather than showy blooms.
This cultivar is valuable for wetland biodiversity, providing shelter for small wildlife and stabilising pond margins and damp soils. Its upright, spreading habit and striking variegated foliage make it ideal for pond edges, streamsides, and ornamental naturalistic water garden schemes.
