Iris ensata 'Variegata', commonly known as Japanese iris, is a clump-forming perennial with long, sword-shaped green leaves striped with creamy white, creating striking variegated foliage. In early to mid-summer, it produces large, flat, showy flowers in shades of purple, blue, or violet, often with intricate markings, providing dramatic colour in borders or pond edges.
The flowers attract bees and other pollinators, giving the plant ecological value. Its upright, moisture-loving habit makes it ideal for damp borders, pond margins, and naturalistic plantings where bold summer colour and variegated foliage are desired.
