Iris versicolor, commonly known as blue flag iris, is a clump-forming perennial with sword-shaped green leaves forming dense, upright foliage. In late spring to early summer it produces large, striking flowers in shades of blue to violet, often with yellow and white markings, creating a bold and elegant display along pond margins and in shallow water.
This species is valuable for pollinators and wetland biodiversity, providing shelter and habitat for aquatic insects and small wildlife. Its upright, rhizomatous habit and tolerance of consistently moist or shallowly submerged soil make it ideal for pond edges, bog gardens, and naturalistic water features.
